Rambles 2018
FRIDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2018
AILEEN, JEAN, ERNEST & ORLA, SPUD, PHILLIP, IAN & STEVE MERCHANT
WE USED BUSES FROM WESTON TO UPHILL, DISEMBARKING AT LOXTON ROAD, CORONATION ESTATE. WE WALKED FROM HERE TO THE BEACH, MEETING STEVE AND HIS TWO DOGS AND IAN ALONG THE WAY. IT WAS HARD GOING ALONG THE BEACH AS THE SAND WAS VERY DEEP AND UNDULATING DUE TO THE ENDURO BIKE RACE LAST WEEKEND. THE COUNCIL WERE WORKING HARD MOVING THE SAND AND CLEARING THE AREA. THE DOGS WERE HAVING A WONDERFUL TIME CHASING BALLS AND ROLLING IN THE SAND. AT ONE POINT WE HAD TO WALK ON THE PAVEMENTS ALONG MARINE PARADE DUE TO THE HEAVY MACHINERY WORKING. WE CONTINUED ALONG THE BEACH, IAN AND STEVE LEAVING US ALONG HERE AS THEY HAD PRIOR COMMITMENTS. WE STOPPED FOR LUNCH AT THE TERRACE CAFE FOR LUNCH. AFTER A LOVELY MEAL WE STROLLED BACK ALONG MARINE LAKE AND THE BEACH TO THE BUS STOP AT VICTORIAN CAFE, MARINE PARADE.
IT WAS A VERY COLD WIND BLOWING BUT MOSTLY SUNNY.
LENGTH OF WALK 5 MILES.
FRIDAY 27TH JULY 2018

WE ALL MET AT THE VICTORIAN CAFE AT 10.42 AM ON MARINE PARADE, WESTON-SUPER-MARE. FROM HERE WE WALKED ALONG THE BEACH TOWARDS ANCHOR HEAD, CONTINUING ON ALONG THE FOOTPATH ON KEWSTOKE ROAD BEFORE JOINING THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH INTO WORLEBURY WOODS. THIS IS A LONG, STEEP CLIMB UP TOWARDS THE WATER TOWER. AFTER A SHORT REST, SHARING MANY OF THE SWEETS ERNEST HAD BOUGHT EARLIER, WE CONTINUED DOWN ANOTHER FOOTPATH WHICH LEAD US TO SAND BAY CAR PARK. FROM HERE WE STROLLED ALONG THE TOP OF THE SAND DUNES AND HAD A PICNIC LUNCH IN THE SHELTER, ENJOYING THE SHADE AND BREEZE. AFTER LUNCH WE HAD A DEMOCRATIC VOTE AS TO WHETHER WE WALK BACK TO WESTON OR USE THE OPEN TOP BUS. THE BUS WON!! FROM WESTON WE ALL MADE OUR WAY BACK HOME, WALKING OR USING BUSES.
A VERY HOT DAY BUT WE HAD PLENTY OF SHADE IN THE WOODS.

FRIDAY 25TH MAY 2018
AILEEN, SPUD, ERNEST, ORLA AND PHILLIP TRAVELLED TO CLEVEDON ON THE X5 BUS TO MEET JEAN. IT WAS RAINING WHEN WE LEFT WESTON AND STILL RAINING WHEN WE ARRIVED IN CLEVEDON!
WE WALKED ALONG ALL SAINTS LANE AND ENTERED CLEVEDON WOODS, PASSING ALL SAINTS CHURCH ON OUR LEFT. THERE ARE SEVERAL PATHS TO CHOOSE FROM IN THE WOODS SO WE WALKED TO THE TOP OF THE WOODS, CLOSE TO THE BRIDGE WHICH CROSSES THE M5 MOTORWARY. AS WE WERE LOOKING FOR SOMEWHERE DRY TO HAVE OUR PICNIC LUNCH LATER, WE CONTINUED THROUGH THE WOODS, DESCENDING INTO THE GORDANO VALLEY. WE JOINED HARLEY LANE, LEADING INTO MOOR LANE, CROSSING THE GORDANO VALLEY NATURE RESERVE, SPUD TELLING THE GROUP HE COULD SEE A VERY NERVOUS WILD DEER RUNNING AWAY FROM US INTO THE WOODS. ORLA OBVIOUSLY FRIGHTENED THE DEER (ORLA WEARS A COLLAR WITH A BELL ATTACHED WHEN ON HER FREE RUN). REACHING WALTON-IN-GORDANO , WE CROSSED THE B3124 AND JOINED WALTON STREET. A COUPLE OF HUNDRED YARDS ALONG HERE WE TURNED LEFT, JOINING A PUBLIC FOOTPATH. THIS WAS SIGNPOSTED TO ST. PAUL’S CHURCH. JEAN SUGGESTED WE MAY BE ABLE TO HAVE A DRY LUNCH INSIDE THE PORCH OF SAID CHURCH. LUCKILY, SHE WAS CORRECT AND WE SPENT THIRTY MINUTES IN THE DRY. AFTER LUNCH WE CONTINUED ALONG THE PUBLIC FOOTPATH, CROSSING CLEVEDON GOLF COURSE, AVOIDING THE GOLF BALLS!! FROM HERE WE CONTINUED ALONG SIDE ROADS THROUGH THE TOP OF CLEVEDON, EVENTUALLY WALKING DOWN ZIG ZAG, A VERY, VERY STEEP PATH LEADING TO THE TOP OF HILL ROAD. WE CONTINUED ON TO CLEVEDON’S SEA FRONT, STOPPING FOR A COFFEE AT SCARLETT’S RESTAURANT WHERE WE MET JO, FROM BACKWELL, ONE OF OUR MEMBERS. ERNEST WANTED SOME CHIPS WITH HIS DRINK, BUT THEY WERE ASKING £3 A PORTION.OUTRAGEOUS!! SO HE CHOSE TO HAVE A DELUXE MUG OF DRINKING CHOCOLATE WHICH CONSISTED OF CHOCOLATE, TOPPED WITH CREAM AND SPRINKLINGS OF CHOCOLATE FINISHED OFF WITH LOTS AND LOTS OF TINY MARSHMALLOWS ON THE TOP, PLUS A BUTTERED TEA CAKE WITH STRAWBERRY JAM. BETTER THAN ANY CHIPS!!! FROM HERE WE WALKED ALONG THE SEA FRONT, STILL RAINING, BACK THROUGH THE TOWN TO NORTHERN WAY, WHERE WE SAID GOODBYE TO JEAN. WE CAUGHT THE X5 BACK TO WESTON AND PHILLIP CAUGHT THE X7 TO CONGRESBURY.

AFTER A LOVELY MEAL WE CONTINUED OUT WALK THROUGH THE CAR PARK AND ONTO THE PATH ALONG THE EDGE OF THE WOODS AND PARALLEL WITH THE TOLL ROAD.
